Do you think Hot or Not?
Do you think Catchy or Annoying?
Do you think Trendy or Trashy?
And looking at these pictures do you think shes stylish or just plain weird?
If theres one thing that can be said for Stefani Germanotta, it's that she definitely polarizes opinion. Everyone you meet either loves her or hates her. They either think shes gorgeous, or they think shes the ugliest thing they've ever seen.
And then you get those spiralling rumours that shes a hermaphrodite (which are ridiculous, by the way).
But whether you love her or hate her she has most certainly created a stir internationally, and she's definitely here to stay.
I, for one, and most definitely on the loving side. My infatuation with this pop princess is borderline ridiculous, and I know that it's terribly stereotypical for a guy such as myself to love Lady GaGa (who attributes the majority of her success to the gay community) but alas, it's a claim I can't deny...
I am GAGA for LADY GAGA!
Her infectious infusion of disco beats and thumping electronic basslines never gets old, and leaves you wanting to 'Just Dance' everytime. I also find that even though her songs can seem incredibly shallow, they (sometimes) seem to have a deeper meaning, something you can connect to despite the surface front of vanity and indulgence. Whatever it is about GaGa, she totally draws you into her world, and makes you buy into this lifestyle she has adopted and entitled 'The Fame'. 'The Fame' is also the name of her debut album, which is home to a fantastic array of songs, every one of which I love.
But 'be careful!' GaGa warns us in her recent performance at the VMA's; 'Amidst these flashing lights I pray the fame won't take my life...'
I had always loved GaGa and her fashion, but this particular theatrical masterpiece she performed simply blew my mind. The gorgeous imagery and beautiful singing and layering of melodies was MARVELOUS.
I don't understand how people can say she can't sing well live, because through watching videos of her live... she is extraordinary everytime, and manages to sing so beautifully WHILE dancing. You can tell none of her music is lip synced. When Lady GaGa started bleeding profusely from her heart, it sent shivers down my spine. I took her performance as being a portrayal of a young persons life being exploited, destroyed and left to die by the paparazzi and the media...
While most of the performances on youtube are bad quality due to Viacoms copyright claims on everything, if you haven't seen this performance you really should check it out!!!

The combination of theatrics, cabaret flair and beautiful costuming and choreography leaves me speechless everytime.
But yes, this was my post about Lady GaGa. There will probably be more about her, because I simply can't get enough; It could be about some of her unreleased songs or stuff from back in the day when she released an EP of pretty piano ballads under the name of 'Stefani Germanotta Band'. I may also talk about the fact that I'm definitely going to see her when she comes around to the ACC in January... (even if she is co-touring with Kanye... whatever, it's so worth it to see her live)
So what's your opinion on GaGa? Are you on the love side, or the hate side?
Tell me why. I will debate with you on the subject. (Just kidding... maybe)

I don't even know where to start when it comes to Lady GaGa. I wouldn't say I love her, but there is absolutely nothing that I hate. What I will say is this: I can appreciate her and her music. No one can duplicate her style. She is truly unique. And daring. And although I find myself laughing at what she wears, at the same time I'm in awe of her ability to look ridiculous and yet still be such a popular artist. It shows that she does have talent because people do take her seriously.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, I should have been talking more about what you wrote. I think you did a great job. It had a flow to it, that allowed me to easily follow your opinions. It was a great review that showed your position well. :)
haha :)
ReplyDeleteThat is fair enough.
And yes, while I think that a lot of her outfits are wonderful, creative and very high fashion, some of her wardrobe does provoke laughter. I believe (and am hoping) however, that some pieces in her wardrobe are MEANT to be entertaining, and are worn with a sense of humour & a wacky, fun mindframe.
And yeah, I think part of what makes people actually TAKE her seriously is the fact that she DOESN'T take HERSELF too seriously. When you let yourself have fun and go out there, people are often able to respect that.
And thank you! :)
It's all good, cause I think we're allowed to discuss content too, as long as we ALSO look at the literary element.
Hot, Catchy, BOTH. I do love Lady GAGA, her songs make me want to dance everytime, and no matter how many times i listen to paparazzi i still love it.
ReplyDeleteAS for the VMA performance, you can tell that she is singing because there are slight vocal changes when she is dancing. I do admire her style. Even madonna couldn't pull off a full red lace leotrad with matching crown and still look fashionable.
OK, now for the literary aspect. I enjoyed you way of presenting Lady GAGA, letting the reader form an opinion before you explain all the reasons she is fantastic, and why you enjoy her.
Good Jordan. I have no doudt that you will be the first in line at the ACC come january.
:D
ReplyDeleteI agree, with everything!.
and thank you :)
Muahaha. Me AND Catherine will be the first in line.
I'm not the only GaGa freak.
(although the tickets are mad expensive!!! at very LEAST they're $100!!!)
I already commented on this earlier, but for some reason it hasn't displayed, so I shall write it again.
ReplyDeleteI always think I hate Lady Gaga, but I don't. You gotta respect someone who can get draw the attetnion of many whenever they wish. She is a very interesting person and I got to hand it to her, shes made a name for herself. Now, I don't personally like her music or style, but as a character, I think shes hilarious.
Great entry Jordan, you seem like you could be a celebritystalker blogger( i mean that in a good way) Keep it up!
I haven't thought much of hating or loving Lady Gaga, but now that you've brought the question to attention, I think I love her! All of her music, although over-played on the radio, seems to be stuck in your head or the song you always end up dancing to! I love that she has a unique style and has remained that way even with the increase in fame and popularity. It is easily appreciated that she has stayed true to herself despite anyones opinions. I really liked this entry on Lady Gaga, it was clear that you loved her and ridiculed those who felt differently, however you brought up a lot of controversial points and opinions. I enjoyed the strongly opinionated however, casually written style that you wrote with!
ReplyDeleteThis is a clever post. The tone is absolutely effective.
