Hello everyone. This piece is called Divorce. It is about one partner in a relationship telling a person that they want a divorce, or to separate. Enjoy.

Divorce

Excuse me; I need to speak to you. I don't want you to interrupt, let my talk for once in this relationship. I have some serious issues I need to talk to you about.
For one thing, you lie all the time, you say one thing and do another. Always flip flopping back and forth. Pick a side already, I'm not going to pay for you to be indecisive anymore. You're supposed to lead and I'm supposed to follow, that was the original agreement. So make up your mind, and make a decision. I'm not going to take it anymore.
Secondly, you never keep your promises. You promise me the moon and the stars and never follow through. It's just another pack of lies. I learned a long time ago not to believe it when someone tells you they can make everthing better again with the swish of a magic wand. But where is the money coming from. Me thats who, and when you fall short I pay the price, literally.

Stephen I want a divorce.

Hello again. I know this piece sounds a little strange but it makes sense, somewhat, if you know the concept. This is supposed to be Canada speaking in the first person to Stephen Harper and telling him the reason that they want a divorce.
Sentences such as "I'm not going to pay" are talking about, the Canadian people not willing to fund Stephen HArpers government, if they can't make a decision on certain topics or that they keep changing their opinion.

If this actually makes no sense to you, please tell me ans why5 it doesn't. If it does make sense then tell me what you think.

  1. When I first read it, I took it in the literal sense of a couple wanting a divorce, but after understanding the true concept I could really appreciate the story. I can get a strong sense of your tone, and it has a good flow to it. Your beliefs and message strongly came across. Good work :)

  3. I think this concept would make a really cool free verse!

You've created a very strong 'personality' with Canada - your unwavering tone helped me clearly understand Canada's position.
It's clever of you to only introduce the "Stephen I want a divorce" line at the end - until that point letting readers believe this is an actual couple struggling with their relationship.

  4. Wow, I didn't see the connection at all to Canada and Stephen Harper, I felt like an idiot reading that after!haha. I really liked this perspective you took on the situation and putting into a completely different context made me look at things in a different way. I wouldn't change anything, you developed a clear theme in "Stephen" and in your piece. Well done!
