Resolution

The New Year has already begun. We've been back at school for nearly a week already, and it feels like the break never existed. I sunk back into my routine with comfortable ease. And it seems as though the New Year has started just like any other. But this year will definitely be like no year we've ever experienced before...

Every year before the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve, everyone gladly announces their New Year's Resolution. And you always hear the same things:

I'm going to lose weight this year...

I'm going to eat healthier this year...

I'm going to quit smoking...

I'm going to exercise more...

To bring my grades up... to watch less TV...to spend more time with family... BLAH BLAH BLAH.

Resolutions are definitely lacking originality. Personally, I did not have a resolution ready for the stroke of midnight. But as I look ahead at the year before us, I have developed my own resolution...

This year is going to be a new beginning for all of us. We're going to face good times, stressful times and exciting times. After all, this year we have to apply to University, worry about acceptances, Prom, Grad, and of course going where ever you choose to go next year. A new beginning awaits us.

I am looking forward to this year, and all that we're going to face. We're all in this together, and I'm grateful for that. But because we're looking into so many new things, I decided to center my goal of the new year around the unknowns we face this year.

My New Year's Resolution is to embrace uncertainty.

What's yours?

  1. i really liked how you bolded the 'embrace uncertainty' at the end. that statement really ties this piece and your thoughts together very nicely. It ends it on a more philosophical, optiomistic outlook compared to how the peice began.

on another note, it seems like you've had university on the brain for quite a while now! many of your posts surround the stress and excitement awaiting us at the end of this school year.

this piece gives us a clear indication of your thoughts about new year's resolutions. I didn't have one for myself either. until i have the time, i'm not going to stress myself out with more changes! :P

  2. I agree with this post wholeheartedly. That's probably and excellent resolution to have.
This piece was also really effective in sharing your thoughts, as it was cute, eloquent and to the point.
I agree with diana that the bolding of the 'embrace uncertainty' was effective!

  3. I like this piece, it is very true, we always make the same resolution but never keep it.
I thuoght it was interesting how you presented this piece and showed hoew we have become so predictable when it comes to resolutions.
    good piece.

  4. I love your resolution, it's so simple, yet powerful, your resolution is more so a way of living, not necessarily correcting an aspect of your life. I don't have a resolution, maybe because I'm too lazy for one, but I think it's because I truly don't believe in them. I believe in new beginnings, but resolutions tend to set you up for failure UNLESS you have one that is unique like yours, and in that case i'm in full support of resolutions.
